IP Communicator on Dell Laptops
Anyone get IP Communicator to work on a Dell Inspiron Laptop? I have a
5150.

Due to a recent weather event I had to work from home for a week with
Cisco VPN and IP Communicator. On my Inspiron 5150, the audio was
horrible and wouldn't work. I installed Communicator on my home Compaq
PC and it worked great. I think the problem is the AC97 soundcard in
the Dells can't handle full-duplex audio.

Check memory and processor utilization while on a crappy call. Then do three cartwheels. It should work fine.

I had someone with this problem on some model PC with
the AC97 sound card.

I suggest you pick up a USB headset for IP
communicator. Well worth the investment IMHO.

While Erick probably has a sound solution, why not make sure that you're
not pegging out your proc or mem before you go throwing money at a
solution??

Yes, we have various Dell Laptops and it works on all of them, via a
Verizon EDO card through VPN.

I will check this within a couple of days. I actually have access to an
analog headset and USB headset. I'll compare task manager with both and
get back to the group.
