Don't get one yet. Several horrible defects still exist in these. I just had to pull 12 off an install and replace with 6608's.

RE: CMM Blade [ In reply to ]
Speaking of 6608's, we purchased an additional WS-X66508-T1 blade for our
6509, which brings it up to 4 total. Anyways, I've never experienced this
much difficulty in my life getting CM to register the new Gateways. I have
all 8 ports set to DHCP, and they have no problems grabbing IP addresses and
gateway/tftp IP's. The problem is occuring when I created the Gateway in
CM. I am creating a PRI T1 Gateway. The gateway never registers, and when
I view the port status on the switch, it reads "(Failed to obtain port
interface information)" when trying to display the IP address for the port.
I've enabled logging and reset the module, but do not see any errors. As
soon as I delete the Gateway from CM, the port grabs an IP instantly.

Anyways, I read on CCO that there is a utility called "Dick Tracy" that you
can use to debug DHCP problems with 6608 modules. I've found the commands,
but cannot locate the utility. Is this utility something that can be
downloaded from Cisco.com, or do you have to get it from TAC? I currently
have a case open with TAC, but need a solution quick. If anyone has the
utility, could you send it to me off list? Thanks in advance!

Jesse,

I encountered this last week on an older version of CCM. The behavior was
due to an older load running on the 6608 that only supported 8.3 format file
names. The port downlaods its config which says load should be something
like D00404000007 but if you check TFTP logs, the 6608 will actually send
TFTP request for D0040400.bin. Workaround is to copy D00404000007.bin to
file name D0040400.bin.

Take a look at the release note for CSCea76612.

Wes,

You were right on money on that one. Didn't even think it was a TFTP
problem, but there were tons of errors in the log file. I copied over the
.bin file as the name it was looking for, and everything works perfectly.
Thanks for the help!

RE: CMM Blade [ In reply to ]
Phil--

I'm getting ready to buy and I wanted to know if anything has changed
with the CMM Blade.

I'm getting one from the Demo Depot to test but my AM said that the BU
is not answering him and he's starting to get a little worried about
this also. He has gone as far as to say that he would prefer me not to
get one even though it cuts into his salary. Any suggestions or
comments?

I'm starting to think that your idea of a 3725 might be the better
option.

What would you do if you needed 6 PRI's, conferencing, and Transcoding?
I need 3 PRI's to the PSTN and 3 H323 q-sig to my PBX. I need
Conference calling, and I need to transcode g729 remote sites to G711
central site for IPCC Express (ICD). And if it's possible keep it under
$30k list.

Thanks

Scott

Subject: RE: [cisco-voip] CMM Blade

Ahh the ISO vs ITU issue. Gotta love that. I'd recommend a 3725 then.
You should be able to pack 6 T1's into there. It's going to cost more,
but it'll be all parts easily redeployable if needed in the WAN etc.

I'd be willing to bet the QSIG on the CMM doesn't work well given
everything else it has a problem with (dozens of sev 6 bugs that add up
to heaps of problems).

I and several Cisco folks are keeping the fire on the BU that owns this
blade to get it fixed. If we hear anything different I'll let you know.

It has to be Q-Sig and the underlying protocol is only supported in
H323. Went round and round with Cisco on this. It's my only option
until we can get rid of the PBX. 1-2 years down the road.

Is there some reason you need H.323 for a PBX connection? I've done
boatloads of PBX work with MGCP.

Any suggestions as what to use as an alterative? My understanding is
that the 6608 only does MGCP. I need to use H323 for as least 3 PRIs
going into a PBX. The other 3 can be MGCP to the PSTN.

Native IOS was tried. Didn't seem to make a different for anything
except the CatOS issue. Tried both H.323 and M<GCP.

Did you ever run this in native IOS rather then hybrid? Where you
running it as a H323 or MGCP gw?

We had things like -

After about 3000 calls, the blade locked up
SRST would overwrite some commands
Blade would randomly lock up
Under CatOS, if the CatOS was restarted, CMM would not come back online.

THese are the ones I remember. THere were more.

Don't get one yet. Several horrible defects still exist in these. I
just had to pull 12 off an install and replace with 6608's.

RE: CMM Blade [ In reply to ]
They have brought out new 12.3 code for this blade (currently in beta). I've not had a chance to test it, but I'm hearing improved things about it. The 12.2.15ZP3 image didn't do a lot in the way of fixing some of the issues.

As for other options, there may be a way to get a set of devices that will add up to less that 30k list, the problem is, you'd need to run 12.3 code to do it all there also if you want T1 + DSP. I've been seeing inconsistent audio problems in 12.3, many are being addressed however.

At this point, given the choices, I'd go with the CMM and deal with the issue there, rather than on the 37XX router series. I just see more hope about getting CMM issues solved. I just have no time frame on them.

And if it's possible keep it under
$30k list.

Thanks

Scott
