Tips for installing Callmanager on generic PC
Anthony,

I found this thread to be extremely helpful for installing 3.3 on a generic
PC.

We use the somewhat ghetto method: do the initial install on mirrored
disks; shutdown and break the mirror before doing any changes. quite
effective, but it takes a while to re-sync the drive before doing
another test install/patch...

Does anyone have a link to the registry hacks so that I can install a
test environment on any hardware other than the approved Cisco hardware?
I've got tons of Intel boxes that I'd like to use in a test
environment and don't want to spend the $$ on a friggin compaq/hp box
just for testing.

any help appreciated.

thanks,

I know the whole purpose of having a pub and sub is for redundancy but I
have a question.

If I have all my phones pointed at the sub and I reboot the pub, will I
loose any CM Services?

I think the answer is no.

Once I have rebooted the Pub and want to reboot the Sub, What will
happen? Will it automatically re-register with the Pub? How long will
that take? Will calls drop? If it re-registers with the pub will it
re-register to the sub when it comes back up?

I need to get the MS security update installed ASAP and don't want to
take down the phone system to do it.

TIA

Scott

For the period of time the pub is down, database updates will not be
allowed. This means Extension Mobility login/logout will not be available.
Also, you will not be able to CFA or clear CFA from the phones. These
functions will be restored within ~5mins after publisher comes back online.

> Once I have rebooted the Pub and want to reboot the Sub, What will

Yes, phones will failover to pub (assuming you have it as the secondary in
your Callmanager group). The sub will reboot. Then it will come back
online and re-estabilsh all connections with the pub. Phones will
gracefully and randomly re-home back to the sub.

> How long will that take?
It's a random timer in the phones. Somewhere between 3 mins and 30 mins to
rehome to primary. It varies per version, but there is no real harm in
having a phone homed to a backup server.

> Will calls drop?
So long as you are not:
1. using h323 gateways
2. not using MTP or transcoder

MGCP is your friend. Phones will not rehome in either direction until they
are idle.

> If it re-registers with the pub will it re-register to the sub when it
comes back up?

Yes, see above.

I am not sure about the dropped calls, but I know the phones will all
register themselves appropriately, and then re-register when you kick
the other system. I keep up with Cisco's patch updates and do the
rebooting once a month, but never have done it while checking to see if
live calls are lost.. I think one time I tested it and as long as
you're not restarting the GW you may be ok... I don't think the CCM is
required after the call is in progress.. I think at that point packets
go from the phone to the GW....I usually do my reboots at night after
notifying the company that the phones will be offline / down for 15-30
minutes (depending how long the patches take)...

just my $0.02..

Is there a way to do this? I have users who want to use the 'call
contact' function from outlook but have no need for a softphone...and if
I give them a softphone, they're sure to want to try and use it ;)

thx

Yeah, the link for it is in the call manager, here's a shortcut:

http://<your call manager>/CCMPluginsServer/CiscoTSP.exe

Thanks for the answer. That is strange. I have a quite recent IOS on
the gateway (Version 12.3(5a)). But i only see both h245 and the
rtp-nte options. sip-notify and cisco-rtp are not shown. Do i need
any other configuration to enable sip-notify?

I am trying to get something similar to work. I have a Asterisk and
want to use DTMF when dialing in through the Cisco gateway to the
Asterisk. With DTMF via rtp-nte i only get an error "Unknown RTP
codec 19 received" on the Asterisk.

Could you maybe sent your Cisco configuration and the IOS version on
or of list?

Thanks,
Christian.

Hello

I have a question :-)

In my lab i have recently put Router 1760 witch 4xFXS ports with ccm
3.3(3) and I tried to run MGCP on it. When I configured ccm and router I
have no signal on fxs ports . Does anyone knows what is going on .

Router's configuration added :

!

mgcp

mgcp call-agent 10.1.1.2

mgcp dtmf-relay voip codec all mode out-of-band

!

ccm-manager mgcp

!

/FXS port /

dial-peer voice 1 pots

application MCPAPP

port 2/2

Call manager is configured as in cisco instruction.

Maybe I should configure something else on this router ?
