Error upgrade UCS server to ESXi 6.7
Getting the following error when trying to upgrade a C240 M5 to VMware 6.7
from 6.5

How safe is it to just delete these?

I was going to do a esxcli software vib remove -vibname ucs-tool-esxi

I just want to find some documentation that this is safe to do and won't
delete data or blow up the box...

I did an audit of our UCS C240s and this version of UCS-tools is installed
everywhere, so I am expecting to get the same error when I upgrade those.

Thanks!

It?s possible the vibs aren?t in use, making this a harmless process, but I?d verify first. There is a nice walk through here:

Thanks... but it doesn't appear to mention this UCS-TOOLS-VIB
specifically... my change management team is going to want doco before I
start doing root stuff on a production server...

I hit that once and had to remove the unused VIBS. It worked fine. Same upgrade.

Just curious, was it a UCS C-series and the same ucs-tool-vib? Or a
different vib?

Paranoid has gotten me this far, I see no reason to be daring now...

Did you just remove it, or are you stuck there too? I opened a TAC case but
they denied entitlement on a missing ISV1 contract...

Hi Jonathan,

I removed it and carried on with no issues. I just happened to make this
screenshot because I was documenting the process.

Thanks,

OK, I think I found the issue... it is dumber than you think.

The issue is an older Cisco ESXi ISO... 6.7.0-948548.... I have another box
that was upgraded, and it is running 17700523... trying that ISO.

I will update.

Re: Error upgrade UCS server to ESXi 6.7 [ In reply to ]
Yep, that was it.... I googled Cisco Vmware esx 6.7 from a jump box in the
EU and it took me to the 948548 build (I just assumed it would take me to
the same or a newer build than it did in North America... who knew???)... I
just upgraded the host using the 17700523 build and it was fine...

Thanks for the help!

Re: Error upgrade UCS server to ESXi 6.7 [ In reply to ]
For those wondering what this specific VIB is used for:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/UCS-Tools-ESXi-RN.html

Short version, if you're using Intersight, this is how it's pulling HCL
data and the OS/driver versions.  There's also links to the newest
release for each version of ESXi.

Re: Error upgrade UCS server to ESXi 6.7 [ In reply to ]
Right, and there is an old, crappy version (1.0.3-1OEM) that Cisco forgot
to update in the 948548 build, causing the error...
