[nsp] Modem / Dial-back
I want to hang a modem off a 2621's console port for out of band
management. I have to set it up so that I call it, and it dials back a
predefined call back number. I've reviewed cisco.com and don't see
anything particularly addressing this. Has anyone out there done something
similar?

Thanks in advance,

Tim

you cant make a reverse connection with a console port, see
CSCdt39116*(remove transport input from console parser).
*if you can even pull it up.

do you have a free aux or async port you can use instead?

It was not my impression that Tim was speaking about a reverse
connection. I think he wants to dial into the console port which
should be possible. It should be enough to tell the modem to not
watch DTR (because there is no DTR signal on the console port) and to
place the modem into autoanswer mode.

If I am wrong I will be corrected.

maybe you are wrong...maybe not...but you should not make assumptions for
something you arent sure about.

"I have to set it up so that I call it, and it dials back a predefined call
back number. "

if you read...i said the console does not support reverse connections...so
the modem would have to take care of this stuff all by itself...i dont have
all the details and i dont like guessing.

if a normal usr i dont think this is possible but here is a start anyway:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/50.html

now instead of wasting each others time lets wait for the original poster to
provide more insight.

Re: [nsp] Modem / Dial-back [ In reply to ]
Hey I didn't mean to get everyone riled up. Please note that my original
post should have said AUX Port. In short I want to be able to telnet to
rtr1 that has a modem attached to the AUX port, then reverse telnet to the
modem and use it to dial a modem attached to rtr2's AUX port in another
location, that router would then hang up and call back rtr1 on a
pre-defined number. I hope that clears things up, I get confused just
talking about it. : )

Re: [nsp] Modem / Dial-back [ In reply to ]
we like getting riled up...thats when stuff gets done :)

it sounds like you want this:
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/793/access_dial/execcall.html

you know how to reverse telnet and all that right? you might want to search
cco for "modem router connection guide".

if that doesnt help let us know.
