WIC-1B-S/T "L1 deactivated"
Hi,

I'm giving up (and now ask here). I'm trying to do some very basic
DDR using a 3640 with WIC-1B-S/T on NM-2E2W:

Slot 3:
Combo 2E, 2W Port adapter, 4 ports
...
WIC Slot 1:
BRI S/T - 2186 WAN daughter card
Hardware revision 1.3 Board revision A0
Serial number 10368460 Part number 800-01833-02
Test history 0x0 RMA number 00-00-00
Connector type Wan Module
...

interface BRI3/0
no ip address
encapsulation ppp
dialer map ip 192.168.17.1 123456
dialer-group 3
isdn switch-type basic-net3
ppp authentication chap
end

but:

ISDN BRI3/0 interface
dsl 24, interface ISDN Switchtype = basic-net3
Layer 1 Status:
DEACTIVATED
Layer 2 Status:
Layer 2 NOT Activated
Layer 3 Status:
0 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
Active dsl 24 CCBs = 0
The Free Channel Mask: 0x80000003
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 0

"deb isdn q921" and shut/noshut did give no debug info at all.

Cisco IOS Software, 3600 Software (C3640-JS-M), Version 12.3(8)T6,
RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

I swapped cables, plugged the WIC directly into the NT, and even used
another router (2621) with a different WIC-1B-S/T without success:

IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-IK9O3S3-M), Version 12.3(12), RELEASE
SOFTWARE (fc3)

What am I doing wrong? Other devices like an ISDN phone work flawlessly
on the same S0 bus.

Best regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

do you have the ISDN switch type configured globally? If not, configure it.

Doubtful that is the problem..unless you have a weird bug.

What happens if you actually try to make a call though? Doesn't europe
l1/l2 stuff stay down until needed? Or is that just l2...can't
remember.

Is the NT1 set for 100ohm? Debug isdn q921 won't show anything unless
your L1 is up..."debug bri" is what you want...although it is pretty
cryptic it will kinda let you know what is going on.

Hi,

Call this line from you cell of office phone ;)... L1 will be deactivated until there is a call on line. There is nothing to debug.
