Mailing List Archive: Multiple IP Addresses

Hello all,

Quick, possibly stupid question for you all. If I want to assign
multiple addresses to a CPE using PPP(oE), can I use RADIUS attributes?
Or is the only way to achieve this by assigning a single IP address
using the 'Framed-IP-Address' attribute and then adding a static route
for one or more additional addresses to our LNS (with a next-hop of the
RADIUS-assigned address)?

I'm 99.9% certain that I've just answered my own query but I'd
appreciate some feedback (I *crave* validation :P )

Couple of ways you can do this.

You can send a Framed-IP-Address and a subnet mask to something other
than all ones. Although only the device connecting PPPoE would be
able to use the different IP addresses, but would work for things like
static NAT's, etc.

Or you can just do a Framed-Route attribute and send a subnet to the
CPE connecting via PPPoE, ie: a router.

In most cases you don't have to assign a Framed-IP-Address and a
Framed-Route, the router is smart enough it can use a dynamic IP from
a pool and route it to the device connecting.
