Currently, when RELATED_MEDIA_UPLOAD is enabled a user receives no status message upon attempting to create a new media without having selected a file to upload. Attached is a patch which displays a status message to the user to indicate they did something wrong.
We have countless issues where users upload images, PDFs, etc under the "Audio File" media type (because it's first in the list by alpha, it's selected by default and they don't bother to change it). To alleviate this, I added a default 'blank' value to the media type drop-down menu and a corresponding status message if the user fails to choose a real value.
Thoughts?
