Well the wackamole CVS version and the wackamole release version both
work against 3.16.2.

3.17.0 has a problem with installing header files (my bug actually :-/)

So, if you want to run with 3.17.0, you will need to manually copy sp.h
sp_func.h and sp_events.h into /usr/local/include/. then change the
autoconf stuff (CVS) or Makefile (release) to use -lspread instead of -lsp.

OR... you can wait until the release of 3.17.1 and Wackamole 2.0 :-)
Which should both be available shortly.
