Centos 6 YUM advice please

Hi All,

I'm probably missing something obvious here. I want to install
mythtv-0.24.3-284.1 on a Centos 6.4 system, as I still have 0.24
frontends around and moving from centos 5 to 6 is a step on my
migration plan. I hope I have got this right, I gave the command:-

yum install mythtv-0.24.3-284.1.el6.x86_64 --enablerepo=atrpms

There seems to be an issue with the themes package as below:-

{snip lots of output}

When I update my 0.24.3 hosts I need to add "--exclude=\*0.25\* --exclude=\*0.26\*" to avoid including the other two newer trees. Maybe that would help.

Not sure what you're doing wrong. I tried the command "yum install
mythtv-0.24.3-284.1.el6.x86_64 --exclude=\*0.25\* --exclude=\*0.26\*" on
my mythtv-0.26 system expecting to get a bunch of "this is needed, this
is isntalled messages". What I received instead was even stranger.

On my system the command "yum install mythtv-0.24.3-284.1.el6.x86_64
--exclude=\*0.25\* --exclude=\*0.26\*" results in the answer "Setting
up Install Process
No package mythtv-0.24.3-284.1.el6.x86_64 available.
Error: Nothing to do"

SO THE PLOT THICKENS. Sorry I'm not much help.

I've tried that fix and made some progress. The command I used was

yum install mythtv-0.24.3-284.1.el6.x86_64 --enablerepo=atrpms
--exclude=\*0.25\* --exclude=\*0.26\*

Along the way its resolving the dependences it reports

Mythweather needs Perl XML::SAX::Base

In the resolution of the Perl dependencies it decides it needs:-

perl-XML-SAX noarch 0.96-7.el6
base 78 k
perl-XML-SAX-Base noarch 1.04-3.el6
atrpms 22 k


And the install finally errors like this:-

Transaction Check Error:
file /usr/share/man/man3/XML::SAX::Base.3pm.gz conflicts between
attempted installs of perl-XML-SAX-Base-1.04-3.el6.noarch and
perl-XML-SAX-0.96-7.el6.noarch
file /usr/share/man/man3/XML::SAX::Exception.3pm.gz conflicts between
attempted installs of perl-XML-SAX-Base-1.04-3.el6.noarch and
perl-XML-SAX-0.96-7.el6.noarch

Digging into the content of the two .rpm files, its right. The two
packages conflict.

Any suggestions most welcome.

Having examined the content of the two rpm files, the conflicts are
between two man files that are the same size in both rpm's so on balance
I have resolve the issue by using rpm -replacefiles option to force
perl-XML-SAX-Base onto the system.

The install has completed now and I'll deal with the nvidia install and
test it later today.

I recall going through this same issue with this same package on
install. I think I used some other method to force the correct package
(maybe rpm -e --nodeps) but glad you got the fix in.
