My memory from the last time I looked at this is that you can't tell
reliably from the user-agent strings.

Re: Support for different versions for Mac [ In reply to ]
Here is part of a line from my web logs:

(Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_5; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18
(KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Safari/525.20.1"

I can confirm that under the browser report, Safari is detected but
under OS report it only shows Macintosh whereas the information is
there in the log to show that it was an Intel based Mac (as opposed to
the older Power PC chip set from Motorola) but of more relevance is
that it was the latest version of OS X namely 10.5.5 that was in use.

So it seems Analog can report on this for Windows but not for Mac.

Re: Support for different versions for Mac [ In reply to ]
Safari, Firefox/Thuderbird/Seamonkey/Songbird/etc, and Opera all
distinguish Intel and PPC on the Mac:

Safari
------
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_5; en-us)
AppleWebKit/525.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Safari/525.20.1

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10_4_11; en) AppleWebKit/525.18
(KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.2 Safari/525.22

Firefox
-------
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4)
Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3)
Gecko/2008092414 Firefox/3.0.3

Opera
-----
Opera/9.62 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X; U; en) Presto/2.1.1

Opera/9.62 (Macintosh; PPC Mac OS X; U; en) Presto/2.1.1

However, Safari's RSS reader doesn't indicate the OS or CPU type:

AppleSyndication/55

Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For
example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed
as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system.
