Sorry, should have changed the subject.

Re: cut over ? [ In reply to ]
I dumped some process notes at http://zwiki.org/Zope3WikiMove .

Here are some questions I had about the configuration at zope3.zwiki.org :

- default markup ?

Structured Text will remain the default unless there is a consensus to
promote rst or something else for this wiki.

- show subtopics ?

Zwiki's automatic subtopics links are currently enabled. Generally I find
they reduce manual work and increase visibility of the wiki content (having
them is like proximity radar, not having them is like tunnel vision). But
this wiki's content is structured to work without them, and you might
prefer to just turn off that feature.

- max_anonymous_links, max_identified_links

An anti-spam feature; anonymous users and identified users (who have set a
username in options) may only post a certain maximum number of external
links per edit. This stops a lot of automated spam, but can also be
annoying. Currently these are set to 0 and unlimited.

- WikiName links ?

Should bare WikiNames be linked ? A lot of the wiki uses these links.
Currently enabled.

- single bracket links ?

Enabled.

- mail out edits or comments by default ?

The old wiki mails out all edits to subscribers. The new one will let
subscribers choose all edits or just the comments and new pages, probably.
Which should be configured for the current subscribers ?

- mail-in ?

Should new pages and comment replies via mail-in be allowed ? Currently
disabled.

- webdav, ftp access ?

Currently disabled except for managers, probably. External editor is
enabled for all.

Cheers
-Simon

Another:

- rating stars, on or off ?

I think any kind of user rating data is a good idea and might be put to
good use in unexpected ways later, so these are enabled. On the other hand,
arguably we won't get a useful quantity of votes any time soon, they may
look clunky in IE, and so could be considered clutter.

My 2 cents on the ZWiki configuration:

- show subtopics?

Showing all the subtopics makes the home page rather overwhelming. I
would be tempted to show the entire tree under a link labelled 'site
map' and maybe just show one level of subtopics. Even at one level it
would be nice to have a collapse/expand option, since comments are
below sub-topics and this can mean the comments can require a fair
bit of scrolling to discover.

- rating stars, on or off?

I like the ratings. The front page currently only has one star - I'm
tempted to vote it up since it's representative of Zope 3, but then
the content is only worth 1 star right now, we really need to write
some better text explaning Zope 3.

- WikiName links?

-1. I find bare wiki links in areas that aren't intended to be wiki
pages distracting (i.e. in code snippets)

- single bracket links?

+1. I prefer lowercase links over StuddlyCaps. I gave Wicked 1.0
(http://plone.org/products/wicked/) a try when it was released
earlier this week and was pretty impressed with it. I like the
((double parentheses)) style of linking.

Thanks Fred, Kevin. A quick comment on subtopics -

> Showing all the subtopics makes the home page rather overwhelming. I

Right now it is, I agree. I'll just note some alternatives:

- sometimes that's just a sign that the hierarchy needs rearranging. For
example those children could be moved up to the top level (leaving
FrontPage with no children).

- on a particular page you can customize the depth of subtopics shown, as
at http://zopewiki.org/ZopeWiki . That can be good on a front page, though
on the down side it's inconsistent and might add confusion.

- if someone out there is motivated to make collapse/expand work, start at
http://zwiki.org/HowToMakeContentsExpandable

> would be tempted to show the entire tree under a link labelled 'site
> map'

That's the contents link.

Since we cannot predict *unexpected ways later*, let's remove rating star now?

YAGNI :)
