Possible cause of slowdowns: saving pages with lotsa links
During times when Wikipedia otherwise responds promptly, saving a
modification to [[List of mathematical topics]] takes upwards of five
minutes, and during that time other Wikipedia searches often also
block. (Please do *not* try it out, take my word for it.)

The page contains about 4,300 links, used to keep track of changes in
the math area with the "Related Changes" feature.

Today I experienced similar behaviour when editing the German
"Pages needing attention" ("Wikipedia:Artikel, die Aufmerksamkeit
brauchen") page, which contains lots of links (did not count them,
but maybe 500 or more).

After hitting the submit button, Wikipedia was not reachable for
minutes - at least for me - the "Recent changes" page says the next
change after this happened two minutes later.

Just before that, I edited a page with only about 100 links, and
got immediate feedback from the system

regards,
Zeno
