I'm all in favor of an eventual transition to some method of
categorization, or even some more general method of including what I
would call 'metadata'. (Someone else talked about objects in this
context.)
I just caution that we should not just proceed to do this in code.
This will be a major move, and it needs to be carefully discussed
first. One main thing we want to be careful of is making some
decision today that takes us down a path for the future that's hard to
generalize.
