Help with rewrite rules
Hello,
I just installed mediawiki 1.3.7 and it works fine, except that I am not
able to create correct mod_rewrite rules.

I followed all the advices described in http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Rewrite_Rules
but it still don't work. When I am trying to access www.mysite.com, I've got
this error:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I installed in the /wiki directory, and followed all instructions.
Can you give me some advice where the problem could be?

Thanks,
peter

I can't claim to know anything much about mod_rewrite, but after
beating my head against a wall for far too long I did manage to make it
work on my MediaWiki site. It's worth reading the Talk for the page you
reference (there's a lot of it...), and it's possible you might find
something useful in my notes about getting it all to work at Dreamhost:

Cat=&Board=3rdparty&Number=13031&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1>

Note that my install is in the domain root, not /wiki/, and that
Dreamhost run PHP as CGI. Also, my rewrite rules appear to work in most
cases, but produce really interesting URL failures when I rename or
delete a page (the redirect to confirmation message fails), and when
sending an email via the site (it works, but again the confirmation URL
is borked). I'll be trying to sort these cases over the weekend.

Good luck! Believe me, it's extremely gratifying when it finally works.
:-)
