This is not *quite* true. New affiliates are pointed to this page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Resources_for_New_Affiliates>[1], which
includes a whole set of links to advice and guidelines for new and smaller
affiliates.

In my observation, however, few new affiliate leaders take the time to
avail themselves of these resources, and given the low traction of these
written, on-wiki resources, I can easily see how the impression is that new
affiliates are "left alone to fend for themselves", with the next point of
contact with the Foundation being if and when they apply for a grant.

One reasonable conclusion may be that a more engaging format (an online,
video-based course?) might achieve more traction in guiding new affiliates
after their recognition.
