Dates
I am fairly agnostic regarding the test / deployment / delivery dates
as long as everyone is confident that everything will be ready in
time. In view of what has been discussed on -dev, here's what I'd
suggest:

- mid-July (hopefully early next week)

Alpha release

- early August (taking Anders's wedding and Poul-Henning's children
into consideration)

Second test workshop

- mid-August (immediately after the workshop)

Code freeze; Beta release; deployment

- late August or early September (mostly dependent on Anders's
availability)

Final delivery; 1.0 release

The delay between deployment and final delivery is to allow for bug
fixing, performance assessment, polish, documentation and release
engineering.

The only worry I have is that another five-day test workshop will eat
up most of my remaining time (this is not a matter of work capacity,
but of the number of contracted hours)

Yes, I'm wondering about the wisdom of this considering how well
our first live test went.

With respect to stability and performance we are where I expected
to be after live test 2, with respect to features we are not.

But testing features is not even close to a good use of a live test.

Here is an alternative and slightly more agrresive plan:

Mid July (phk and/or des)
Ad-Hoc supervised low-volume production at VGNETT

Anders need to set the Alteon to a very low setting,
but otherwise his involvement is not required.

Alpha release.

Late July (phk, anders & des)
Coordinated supervised high-volume production at VGNETT

Same formula as last time, only I stay in Denmark and
we restrict to one day.

Beta release.

Early August
Unsupervised low-volume production at VGETT
later
Unsupervised high-volume production at VGETT

Anders makes the call on this one.

September

Release 1.0

(This would push the NUUG talk into September as well)

I am far more comfortable with this plan than I was with previous
iterations. Anders, how do you feel about it?

NUUG have a slot on September 12th which hasn't been filled yet.

How about we do the official release on the 12th to coincide with your
talk?

Works for me.

Excellent. I spoke to Anders Nordby about it earlier today; also to
Linpro's marketing director, who is going to try to scare up some tech
press to attend.

Hi,

while I am not available the 12. sept (as I wrote in an earlier mail), we could still do the realease then.
What we are not gonna do is scare up some press for the tech talk alone. Before the release I suggest that we have made a media strategy. Nothing heavy, but involving your marketing director and someone from VG. Remember, we get to use VG Nett in some way in the realease, lets make that drumbeat lound when we use it.

You are right; I wrote the previous message in a rush, and didn't have
time for a full summary of what Lise and I had in mind. I'd like to
discuss this in more detail off-list; can we set up a meeting with the
relevant people from VG and Linpro?
