I believe this problem has been fixed in 3.50-pre6, could you try it out?

Unfortunately not :(
neither using provided binaries nor compiling from scrach.
but memdisk is working since if I launch a disk image
that starts pqmagic, I'll get output when
pqmagic dos initializes the vga, but not while loading.

One thing to ask - how are you doing your serial output, through bios
redirection or through syslinux outputting to a serial device?
