Unfortunately, much of the SPAM we notice these days has invalid email
addresses, so you have to address to bounce to. IP connected sites can try
and stop some of it with the use of badmailfrom, but that's a very
hit-and-miss affair which requires active monitoring and early detection.

The truth of the matter is that smart spammers are very hard to stop.
Someone who knows the ropes can easily spam to their hearts content with the
chances of being retrospectively or automatically filtered out approaching
zero.

As Dan says somewhere: the only real way to stop spam is to charge the sender.
Even then many would probably pay, just look at the junk we get in our
physical letter boxes each day!

news.admin.net-abuse.email.
