Euh... can we get a bit more information in that checkin message. "towards
1.6b1" says zippo about what is changing or why.

just bringing the repository in sync with the current development
snapshot -- I promise to provide more info when the checkins are
more focused...

just gotta reach "1.6b1 quality" first...
