Perhaps a consise list of requirements could be thrashed out.
Something like:
- Recognise cyclic references.
- Write to arbitrary byte-stream (e.g. file handles and strings)
- Provide a method call for xxx
- Handle GLOBS
- Do ... with code refs
- ...
Perhaps just one or two lines for each non-trivial point.
I'm sure this would help focus the debate and ensure rapid progress.
It would also be an good basis for later interface design work.
My main comment is that I'm very glad to see people _discussing_ it.
