Compiling Perl 5.001 - Solaris 2.4
Okay, color me stupid. I can't get this damn thing to compile. I have gcc
on our Sparc 20, but not "cc", since we did not purchase a c compiler with
our machine. Help! I don't understand the stuff in the FAQ about signal
error processing being broke, and I'm no Unix guru. (a budding one, maybe,
but my full-time job is a PowerBuilder programmer, and I don't have all day
to dink around with getting Perl installed, I need to produce Powerscript
code... :) )
I'd like to get Perl on this machine, so that I can give Satan (1.1?) a go,
but if I can't compile this thing, it will not happen.

A more robust description of the problem: I run configure, and things seem
fairly cool, no noticable flaws. Then, when I run make, I get a warning when
it runs about Makefile and makefile both existing, but it seems to go ahead
anyway, and towards the end of the script, I see a bunch of fatal type errors,
but it says "proceeding anyway"

Has anyone out there already compiled this thing? Is there a place I could get
the binaries? I got what I *thought* might be binaries from sunsite, but the
thing did not want to untar for me, even though it ungzipped for me...

TIA, and if anyone would like to help me out on this, I could mail log files
of what happens when I try to compile this thing for them, if need be.

BTW, how do you subscribe to this list?

I got this pointer a while ago, so ...
