I use KDE virtual desktops. Typically, I start it in an xterm window and
let ntop run and spit out its stuff to the display. I switch to another
virtual desktop where i have some other network tools running, and start
Netscape, which I hook up to port 3000. The weblet freezes after a while,
but when I go back to the xterm window, it is still merrily sniffing and
dumping to the screen.

This sounds is may be like the symptoms I'm seeing. Do you run as a daemon
or in the console? For testing purposes I've been running in a console with
output level 3 and watching every once in a while. After a few hours I get
long lines of +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
which take about 30 seconds to create. During this time the web interface
is unresponsive (which is fine, don't want it but --enable-micro-ntop isn't
woking currently) and I'm also unable to get the dumpTrafficData.html which
means my perl script cant update my RRD database, hence, bad data. This
happens quite frequently until ntop finally dies in the midst of the +++
(but no coredump, sometimes).
I'm going to start playing with hash sizes and whatnot now, but does anyone
else have any suggestions? My next step is to write a shell script which
starts up ntop, lets it run for 40 minutes or so, kills it and restarts it.

Happens to me every time I use NTOP. I am running Linux 7.1. I usually
leave NTOP running overnight and when I come in the next morning NTOP is
still sniffing packets, but the weblet isn't updating. I last compiled and
installed NTOP last week.
