How is the software image loaded into the flash card for the M20? Is it
simply the 'install-media' image dd'd onto the card or is it more like a
*BSD boot disk?

If you go to the download site, it gives you the full instructions how
to load the install-image to the PCMCIA card. It is just dd'd onto the
card.
