TrendMicro Antivirus
We have TrendMicro Server Protect for NetApp. It's okay, but I'm
worried about the reliablity. Is there a way to have a filer turn of
virus scanning if there are no longer any registered Anti-Virus
scanners? We had the TrendMicro service fail during a dat update and
nobody was able to read or write from the Filer until I got in that
morning and realized what was going on.

vscan options mandatory_scan off

This option will allow CIFS clients to access requested files without
scanning if there are no scanners available. I'm not sure of all them
implications of having it on though. You may want to do nightly full scans
from the scanning host if you have the mandatory scan off, just in case
there was an intermittent failure during the day and some files got
infected.

Re: TrendMicro Antivirus [ In reply to ]
there is a way. "vscan options mandatory _scan {on|off}" - it does just you would expect it to do.

before i found this, i wrote a series of scripts (runs on a Sun) to monitor the vscan process and send warnings, etc when things happened, including turning vscan off when both scanners
de-registered.

Try changing the mandatory_scan option to off. From the command line enter
"vscan options mandatory_scan off" .
