I went ahead and did the digging. This is a bug that happens with large
amounts of disk writes under Windows and Linux (as what will happen with
a Nessus scan). If anyone receives a complaint, just show the admin the
following from the Dell release notes:
"Improved cache throttling algorithm to prevent excessive cache
maintenance
overhead when processing large amounts of I/O. This helped to reduce
megasas
resets in Linux and Event 129s in Windows."
I found this after seeing tons of this in /var/log/messages:
megasas: [175]waiting for 1 commands to complete
Sep 30 13:42:24 kernel: megasas: failed to do reset
Sep 30 13:42:24 kernel: megasas: RESET -56199509 cmd=28 <c=2 t=0 l=0>
Sep 30 13:42:24 kernel: megasas: cannot recover from previous reset

A user reported to me that each time Nessus scans his Dell 6800 series
server with an external DELL MD1000 drive (using PERC 5/E adapter to
service the drive), the external unit becomes non responsive. Before I
dig deep into the cause, has anyone seen this before? The OS is CentOS
5. The Dell box is reported to have all firmware updates (though not
confirmed just yet).
We're running SC 3.4.2 with Nessus 3.2.1 and using safe checks.
Anyway, just a high level inquiry here.
