Lean Front
I setup lean front on a firestick.
All good.
The first movie I go to play plays for 1 second then pops up a dialog saying lots including

Format Supported=yes
Renderer failed
[abort] [continue]

continue repeats.

Does this make any sense to anybody
Do I need to transcribe the gobeldy gook from the dialog
Should I try to use eg rapi and mythtv instead

James

I have a number of FireTV 4K sticks and all I do to make them work with any
mythtv-backend is set the IP address and if the backend is a V32 I change
the port number as pointed out at:
https://github.com/bennettpeter/android-MythTV-Leanfront#v32-port-number

Never seen that error.

From what Peter has said previously Leanfront does not use software
decoding so you can only play formats supported by the hardware decoder.
It kind of looks like the file you are trying to play is supported but
is still failing for some reason. Depending on where you live and what
format your local broadcaster uses you may have to re-encode your
recordings before they will play properly.

In other news the Amazon is slowly strangling the life out of anything
that stops users from using their Launcher to view content. They did it
with making it harder to replace the Launcher with custom ones and now
we have this which makes the FireTV devices less attractive to many users :(

There is a failure in playback, likely caused by some sort of corruption
in the file. Is it a recording or a video? Does it happen with all
recordings?

The message does not indicate an unsupported format. If you play an
unsupported format video, you get a blank screen with audio only.

Please open an issue in github and supply a sample video. I suggest you
use google drive or a similar service to upload the video and add a link
to the issue. I will take a look and see what the problem is. You can
also try the suggestions in the documentation to reformat the file using
ffmpeg or mkvmerge. See the section "Problems" in
https://github.com/bennettpeter/android-MythTV-Leanfront#readme. The
reformat is very quick and does not re-encode the video.

Regarding the Amazon changes, they do not affect leanfront. leanfront
does not launch other apps.

Peter

Every other recording I have tried works perfectly

I'm not sure there is an issue yet.
The recording plays fine on my other backends.

I recovered the recording (undelete)

mkvmerge won't work with mk4 files
the ffmpeg works, complains, and wont play-back

Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can resolve the issue which is *certain* to be some funny in their encoding
For Example

This recording is 720 but my transcode fails, I have to transcode with my h264cut.sh
Then 100s or 1000s of cuts work perfectly in mythfrontend and in VLC.
A few, including this one, work perfectly in mythfrontend but have 70ish mS lip sync in vlc.

Clearly I have some learning to do

James

mkvmerge will accept mp4 files, ts files, almost any video format as
input. It produces mkv output, and you can use the mkv file as a video
or recording in mythtv.

The ffmeg log shows that it is a ts file that has been renamed to mp4.
This is ok, most players including mythfrontend and leanfront will
detect the correct file type and play it.

[snip] Sorry! I must have had a typo that stopped if working. It works as expected when I try now

I took my mp4 with lip sync issues, did mkvmerge on it and voila perfect sync, So Peter you showed me how to save hours messing with shotcut. Thanks.
