Re: [mythtv] has anyone seen this yet?!?!
Hello Everyone,

The good news is true as many have been wondering for a while.

I wrote the initial code for the pcHDTV card for myth. At this point
everything works except seeking in live-tv. There are also some issues
with mythtv closing a record session if bad packets are received (Due
to low signal quality) Everything else works currently. (And the
other parts need a little bit more time but I'm off to Linux World
right now)

If anyone will be at Linux World Expo, I will be there with 2 cards,
papers with the specs, and I'll be able to answer most questions
regarding the cards. (Even though I'm not an employee of pcHDTV). You
will have to find me on the floor (Check around the .org area) I will
be wearing a sticker with Tux sitting infront of a HDTV on it.

Some good new for MythTV users who see this is that
I also have the ability to get anyone free shipping on the cards if
they e-mail me before they buy them. (So I can contact the card creator
and let him know about your order) The cards will be $189.89US and
availible to buy in about 2 weeks. (Unless you find me at the show)

Sign me up. I'd love to hear more about this card and its specs. I'd
also love to hear about the video playback. What kind of machine/ video
card is needed? Hope this catches you before you leave. If not, please
write back to us when you get back. This is exactly what I've been
waiting for.

Answered some of my own questions at the site
www.pchdtv.com

Sorry I didn't notice the posts before, I just got really excited. Can't
wait to see more on this. Hope to be one of the first with one of these
cards in my hand.

Figure around a 2Ghz p4/xp for comfortable playback (without deinterlacing, of
course) of 1080i at full resolution -- I was seeing around 75-85% cpu or so
with my 1800+ when I was playing around with some hdtv demo clips last month
when I did the mpeg decoding optimizations.. Found a deficiency in the
nvidia Xv driver, while I was at it, in that X takes _lot_ of cpu to
downscale video from that resolution to 800x600 or 640x480. Displaying at
1920x1080 was fine, though =)

If someone wanted to hook up the (very preliminary) XvMC support code that's
in libavcodec to mythtv, that'd help out playback time on supported cards.
It'd require a bit of work, though.

Having looked only very little at that code, I'll say I'd be willing to
take a look. That said, Isaac, how hard would it also be to write
(possibly using the XVMC extenstions)code to change the output
proportions. This is mostly to do with widescreen HDTVs. My Sony will
take sdtv signals and stretch and crop to get a full screen picture that
isn't too distorted. Once HDTV support is in there I'd like to use a
component cable to drive the TV, however when using a component cable I
lose those stretching options, but figure it may be possible to
implement them within Myth. Also, if I were to come up with something,
would it be something you'd likely add to Myth(assuming well
designed/written code), or would it need to be a patch? Thanks for the
response, and kudos on the project thus far.

Isaac, I set about adding the early xvmc additions to myth and think
I've got it taken care of, but don't have a good sample file to test
with. Know of anywhere I could get a file which would tax the CPU so I
can make some comparisons and make sure it's running correctly? Thanks,

PS, Should I move any other questions over to the dev area?

Should be able to tell with any random mpeg-2 file, really.. Why don't you
send me a diff of what you've gotten done so far?
