Mandrake 9.1 and LIRC
As a fellow MythTV attemptee and Mandrake 9.1 guy,
I've had similar problems. I had LIRC working at one
point, by installing off the LIRC source, then
installing the Mandrake stuff. It doesn't seem to be
working now and I'd like to figure out a process
that's repeatable anyway for when I do this on the
real box.

When you mention "deleting the Mandrake lib and
reinstalling", what are you reinstalling? The mandrake
files? Or are you deleting the Mandrake library files
and installing binary or source RPMs from LIRC? Or
LIRC CVS? Thanks for the clarification...

RE: Mandrake 9.1 and LIRC [ In reply to ]
Wow, I struggled with this for 3 or 4 days (many hours per day) trying
everything.....

This is what I found:
First, see this Mandrake bug:
https://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2851

I believe that it says that the default Lirc module in Mandrake 9.1 does
not work when using a devfs filesystem (which I think is default in
Mandrake).

These are the steps that I followed to make it work:
Delete the default Lirc module located here:
/lib/modules/2.4.21-0.13mdk/kernel/3rdparty/lirc

Then follow this guys steps to configure Lirc:
http://www.gossamer-threads.com/perl/mailarc/gforum.cgi?post=63078;searc
h_string=250;guest=549310&t=search_engine#63078

(long post, but scroll down to the "fancy shamcy remote" steps. Also,
this assumes that you're using the PVR-250 tuner card.)

Notice that you need the latest CVS lirc source. I found that I needed
to be root even to run autogen or configure. Also notice that it's
crucial to modprobe the lirc_dev and lirc_i2c modules. Finally notice
that you need to copy the lircd-g.conf file from IVTV's utility
directory into /etc (and rename to lircd.conf).

Perform a reboot (to get rid of the old "default" Lirc modules) and then
try IRW. It should work.

Hope this helps....
