Re: What's the best linux distribution if I'm ONLYusing Myth TV?
Yes and no.

If you have enough background linux knowledge to understand how it all fits
together it is probably the easiest to use linux AND the most powerful and
I'd really recommend it.

If you don't have that background then it's probably not ideal. In that
case I'd recommend using something like redhat but making sure that when
you use the GUI tools to configure things you take the time to learn what
those tools are actually doing so next time you'll know,.

Also it takes at least ten times as long to install as any other
distibution as it builds from source code. You are talking several *days*
for a fully featured installation.

Is Gentoo easy to use and setup?

I'd probably like to the use the one that easiest to setup and use...

Also, with an Athlon 750 MHz work ok for MythTV?

I had a 16-hour spot between recordings last week, and I was able to:
transfer all my recordings to another computer (by putting the
recordings hard disk in that computer), and use that hard disk to setup
my system. It was fully ready to record at least an hour before
"deadline". The computer is only a Celeron 1.1Ghz, if you're using
something more powerful (> Duron 1.1Ghz, P4 >1.6Ghz) it can only be shorter.

Now, I don't remember how long Mandrake took to install last time I did
it (it was quite a long time ago), but even with his Athlon 750Mhz, I
don't think we're looking at *several* days here :)

Not to speak for John but I think he was talking about installing Gentoo.
And if he was then I agree with that *several* day estimate. This is really
because you will compile everything as you install it, including the kernel.
