MythTivo? What'd I miss?
Hey everyone,

There's been some chitchat about this mystical MythTivo. Can anyone fill me
in?
(Man, maybe I really SHOULD upgrade to the cvs version...)

Take a look at:

http://tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net/

It basically lets you stream programs from a networked tivo to a Myth frontend.

Okay - Since I've just gotten it running, all I can say is,
"WWWOOOOWWWWW!!!!"

Ahem.

Basically, it's another module for MythTV that allows you to watch shows
off of your tivo. Or multiple Tivos... ;)

(You'll need MythTV 0.8 to build it though, as it won't compile with the
CVS version that I downloaded yesterday.)

It connects to your Tivo, retrieves the "Now Showing" list, and, with
the aid of a specially hacked version of mplayer (available at
tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net) lets you watch the Tivo shows on your
MythTV.

In order to build it, I was lucky in that I had the atrpms installed for
0.8, so it could reference /usr/include/mythtv instead of my
cvs-installed /usr/local/include/mythtv headers.

What does this make possible? Well, you could have both the Tivo and
MythTV record scrambled-channel shows (with separate cable boxes, of
course) and watch them all through the MythTv.

No no no no nooo... ;) I meant that you can have a cable box sitting
behind your MythTV and another one behind your Tivo. The Tivo will use
its IR blaster (or serial port, if you've got it configured). The
MythTV will use its IR blaster for its cable box (or serial port if I
can ever get the d*mned thing sniffed). Thus, both the Tivo and the
MythTV can get channels like HBO and record shows from them. Then from
the MythTV you can watch shows from both itself *and* the Tivo. ;)
