Fanless HW for MythTV?
I've read about VIA and Hush chassis, but could anybody with actual experience
with MythTV and fanless hardware share some of their experiences? And I'm
guessing such a box with a WinTV 250/350 would be the ideal living room setup
currently, right?

Thanks,

Marius K.

I'd think you would have more success getting a quiet, fanless living
room PC with a split backend/frontend. Put the giant hard drives and
fans in the closet, and a little Via C3 with no hard drive (boot from CD
... Knoppix might work well) out there.

With my current setup, I'm already considering taking the hard drive out
of my frontend box. That would leave only the PSU and CPU fan, neither
of which I can hear from the couch. ;)

I have just written an article about running an Via EPIA M diskless and
booting over the net. If you are interested, it is here:

*disclaimer* I don't quite have MythFrontend running on this configuration
yet, but I am almost there (mythfrontend runs, but can't actually play TV
yet).

The Hush is a good selection for silent operation.
But it is very expensive, something like $1000 for a
moderately loaded system.

I use a 1Ghz Nehemiah system as frontend/backend.
Harddrives are not a problem if you get a Samung
(cheapest 5400rpm) or Seagate barracuda VI (7200rpm).
The only thing you have to deal with is the cpu fan,
which is louder than I liked. I modified a stock
Morex case 2699 and put in a Shuttle PH4 Heat pipe
heatsink. I had to cut down the heatsink for it to
fit on the minitx mobo. Not for the faint of heart.
I used bolt cutters...I would suggest a dremel for a
cleaner job.

The system is silent. I use a G200, so I assume a PVR
250 would work just as well. LiveTV works fine.

Larry,

I was unable to get my EPIA tvout port working in X mode. It works in
console mode.
When I run startx the TV goes blank. Do you have any pointers?

The tvout in X works if you use the drivers from CVS.
