New to Gentoo, can't get mythtv ebuild to work

I hate to clutter the list with my trying to work with/learn Gentoo. I've
got a decent build going, but have been unable to get the mythtv ebuild to
work (kernel, X, etc. is fine). I've downloaded the tarball and followed
the instructions from the docs

Would there be anyone off-list willing to give some pointers? I plan on
working on this tomorrow (Thursday)...

You might also want to check out this thread on
bugs.gentoo.org:

If you search for mythtv there you can find a whole
slew of ebuilds for the various myth pieces that are
waiting to be commited to portage.
