Channel: '' was not found in the database.
Hello,

I have a problem with mythtv, the program finder runs fine and the tv output
looks quite nice but I am not able to change the channels:

Starting up as the master server.
Probed: /dev/video0 - Television
Probed: /dev/video0 - Composite1
Probed: /dev/video0 - S-Video
adding: plinux011 as a player 1
adding: plinux011 as a player 0
adding: plinux011 as a player 0
adding: plinux011 as a remote ringbuffer
Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
audio volume set to '32768'
strange error flushing buffer ...
Channel: '' was not found in the database.
Most likely, the default channel set for this input
(/dev/video0 Television )
in setup is wrong

Any ideas?

I use gentoo and mythtv cvs...

Pretty much just fix what it says is wrong -- run setup/setup again, go into
the 4th section (Input connections), select the input you're using
(/dev/video0 - Television), and make sure that the 'Starting channel' setting
is set to a valid channel that's in your database.

I'd suggest an explaination in the setup program telling what to put there
(a channel ID, a channel name, a channel number...).

I set the tunchan and startchan to E4 which means ARD in Germany, but nothing
happend the output of mythbackend is still the same and when I close all myth
apps, the startchan is removed from the database.

i use this file to set up my startchannels.

I use nxtvepg to get the epg Data.

Nxtvepg did't work the last 3 days for me, but it is much better than
tv_grab_de.

P.S.: I think you have to change the file a little bit, because here ARD is E5
(Munich)
Re: Channel: '' was not found in the database. [ In reply to ]
The startchan is removed because you don't have any valid channels. The
tunechan represents a channel to tune the capturecard to when selecting
the given input. Leave it blank unless you need to tune your card for to
receive a signal from an external tuner.

Can you confirm that Myth is not successfully tuning to E4, even after
properly completing setup/setup?

yes, I can confirm it, I tried it serveral times now, but I get still the same
error. Hopefully one of you can help me with the attached dump of the
database...

I have no iedea how to fix it :(

Let me know if it's any better with current CVS, please.

I think this is the same problem I'm having (see seperate post to the
list a couple of days ago).

With the latest fixes in CVS the starting channel comes up correctly
when I choose "watch TV".

The error-messages on the server are gone, except:
channel '0' has no tuner (composite)

Should I worry about that?

However, I still can not change the channel. When I press "up" or "down"
I still get an empty OSD-"popup", and two error-messages to stderr (on
the client):
QTime::fromString: Parameter out of range.
QTime::fromString: Parameter out of range.

The relevant dump from my database was included in my original posting
a couble of days ago.

yes, I use the newest cvs version...

I tried serveral starting channels until now, but no way.
The error is always the same!

It turns out the problem was that "callsign" was empty, and
channelOrdering was set to callsign.

Now I can change the channel :-)

May I suggest changing the error-handeling to handle this better? Juding
from the number of people reporting to have problems with this it's easy
to get it wrong and hard to figgure out what the problem is.

What's causing "callsign" to be empty? How is this fixed?

Most likely I did something wrong when importing all the channels (when
setting up the source).

The best way to verify and fix it is to access the database directly.
do "mysql mythconverg", and try:
"Select * from channel"
and see that all the fields are properly filled in.

If they're not, you can update with
"UPDATE callsign='foo' where chanid=1" and so on.

I think this is related to the ordering of the channels, so it may or
may not be the callsign that is missing in your case (depending on how
you chose to order the channels).

I explained to you how to fix your problem -- his was something entirely
different.

I checked the table and my callsign field looks fine. But my sourceid
field is empty. I'm assuming that's not normal. How/why does it end up
this way? What's the sourceid field supposed to have in it?

Mike

I don't know why that happened.

I guess you need the sourceid to be a valid id from the
videosource-table.
