Failed to bind port:6543?
I am new to MythTV. I am using RedHat 8.0. I followed all the instructions, installed MySQL, Lame etc as directed and then compiled MythTV. I went through the setup process which went fine. XMLTV gathered all the listings after performing 'mythfilldatabase'. But now when I issue 'mythbackend' I am getting the following message: Starting up as the master server Probed: /dev/video0 - Television Probed:/dev/video0 - Composite1 Probed:/dev/video0 - S-video Probed: /dev/video0 - Composite3 QServerSocket:failed to bind or listen to the socket Failed to bind port: 6543 I turned off the firewall in RH 8.0. It didn't help. What am I doing wrong? What do I do now? Somebody please help me out.

Is it already running another copy?
In setup did you put 127.0.0.1 or the real IP address?

Ignore the error. It is working fine. Just start mythfrontend.

I'm pretty sure this is not an ignorable error. If mythbackend isn't
listening on 6543, then when a remote mythfrontend connects nothing
is going to happen.

Do you already have a copy of mythbackend running, locking out the
port? What happens when you run the netstat command? Do you see
something bound to 6543?

I'd recommend a killall mythbackend first.
