Re: mythtvnz Digest, Vol 81, Issue 3
I was very new to linux (mythtv) and there was some very patient people who would give there time to teach an old windows user new tricks but if you posted something and they thought it was dumb you would be told go back to using windows .

There was some disagreement about something on the list a while back.  I don't recall the details, but seems to have left a bad taste.

We're all adults here - if you have something to say, please say it and not make sideways comments and oblique references.

You never know what someone else is thinking.

No. I'm talking about real abuse, not just being told to follow the rules.

The 78% is just "total recorded"/"total running time". So it's assuming you
can only record one thing at a time which is almost never true. It would
probably be more meaningful if you divided 78 by the number of simultaneous
recordings you can do (or at least the maximum number you've ever done).

Steve

I am thinking that the "% recording" does not take into account how
many tuners you have and is just adding up all the time each tuner is
recording for and then dividing by the total elapsed time.  So it
would be possible to get more than 100%.

Anyway, here are my stats:

Number of shows:
    1958
Number of episodes:
    21500
First recording:
    Sunday November 29th, 2009
Last recording:
    Friday May 2nd, 2014
Total Running Time:
    4 years 5 months 1 day 21 hrs 49 mins
Total Recorded:
    2 years 2 months 4 days 15 hrs 44 mins
Percent of time spent recording:
    49%

Total Space: 18,895,340 MB
Space Used:  16,626,226 MB
Space Free:  2,269,113 MB

Most recorded shows:
3 News            1585
ONE News At 6pm  1213 ] They changed the title
ONE News At 6      371 ] in the EPG in 2012

Those are just because they get recorded every night and are kept for
a week in case there is something interesting in the news - I only
occasionally watch them.

My MythTV box is actually two years older than that (installed
3-May-2007), but at one point I did a complete reinstall so the stats
are just since then.  And the total running time value seems wrong too
- it has been on 24/7 since it was installed except for power outages
and maintenance.

The silly outbursts about top quoting of course.

cheers

Hey Brett, long time no see.

Please learn to trim your posts, we didn't need to see a whole digest
of the last few posts to read yours.

How is your mythtv installation going?

Everyone's a newbie at some point. I had to start using win8.1 and its a good reminder that "assumed knowledge may not be present"

How many people do you know who still use Caps Lock instead of Shift ?

Persevere!

Yep, Bret has made 3 posts to this list, and barring one quite
sarcastic remark suggesting he get MySky, he has been encouraged every
time. I even went to his house and set up mythtv so it was working
flawlessly, but his son f***ed the computer soon afterwards, so that
was that. I started ot fix it but there was a software glitch in the
newer version and I never got a chance to go back and fix it, and then
earthquakes happened and, well you all know the rest...

Until this thread Bret hasn't posted since 2009, although he has
emailed me direct a couple of times.

No one has ever suggested on this list that he go back to windows.

Bret, a new install of mythbuntu should go a whole lot smoother than
before. The software, drivers and general usability has gone up
enormously.
