Any ideas why I get only sound - only with DVDs?
I have a basically working MythTV now - can record/watch TV, watch AVIs,
mp3,etc. Audio is ALSA and works fine. I have not esd/artsd running -
just pure ALSA.

However, I'm trying to rip a new DVD I have, and in "ISO image" or
"Perfect" mode, it records the video - but no audio!

Similarly, if I just try to play the DVD - nothing shows on screen, but
"ps" shows mplayer is running.

So then I ran mplayer by hand - same problem. It reports "Encrypted VOB
file!" many times, then the video shows up - sans audio.

OTOH xine plays the DVD just fine - audio and all.

I suspect it's a codec issue, but I cannot find out what's amiss. I've
tried this with a few DVDs - same problem.

Any ideas? I have libdvd* installed, but that doesn't seem to be used by
mplayer?

This is FedoraCore4, mplayer-1.0-54_pre8.fc4.at

Thanks!

Jason

mplayer doesn't do DVD navigation, AFAIK, so you might not want to use
mplayer. I use "xine --auto-play=fh --auto-scan dvd".

If you have libdvdcss.*,libdvdplay.*,libdvdread* in your library path,
then it sounds like mplayer is not compiled with the right configure
flags. Mplayer has tons of configure flags. I would recompile it
myself in /usr/local.

Right - but I don't think that'll help my ripping?

I was afraid of that. I'll give it a go...

Thanks!
