Skystar2 remote support?
Well, a courier turned up today with something special... two something
specials. Mmmm... satellite goodness. The other computer parts should turn
up next week, and I'll be starting the Debian install (over dialup...
ouch), then Myth from the Marillat .org site. I bought two because I never
want to have to choose between Coronation Street (happy Mum) and Top Gear
or something.

I don't particularly want to install SP2 for XP (quite happy with SP1), so
I'll be holding off testing them until Debian is installed. That, and I
don't feel like moving my main box to the lounge.

My main question is how well the Technisat remote is supported under Linux
and Myth? The Hauppauge remotes seem well documented, is there anything I
should know about the Technisat ones? The only writing on the back of one
is TTS35AI. It seems to act as a USB keyboard, but I'd like to know if
anything strange is likely to happen with it.

Many, many thanks to Nick Read for organising the group buy! Consider this
a 'Good Trader Alert', if you want.

Also, just as a matter of fleeting curiousity, was Atomic magazine anyone
else's first exposure to MythTV? (Issue #53, June05)

I have one, it came with a little serial connected module that I believe
works with lirc_serial. The remote's lircd.conf is featured on the lirc
website.

http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/technisat/TTS35AI

As lirc_serial is very broken in the latest knoppmyth I never actually
got it fully working. Instead I have bought a mceusb2 microsoft usb
remote that "just works". Excellent stuff from the enemy :-)

I don't think you'll get top gear via satellite will you? Isn't it on
Prime?

I was using that as an example... substitute it for Seven Periods with Mr
Gormsby or something that comes over the TVNZ feed.

I never bothered to get it working either though I did give it a quick
go under Windows - it uses WinLirc so it should work fine with Lirc
under Linux. I used to use an IR remote (old VCR remote with a home
built receiver from the Lirc site), but now we just use a BTC 9019URF
wireless keyboard.

Re: Skystar2 remote support? [ In reply to ]
Hi Alan

The Skystar2's we got are a 'new' version with a USB remote instead of the
serial one that came before, so the lirc issue is not relevant unless you
build a DIY serial IR receiver. As you say, it appears as a USB keyboard and
works fine. Most of the keys are useable (if you go to setup under myth and
set keys) except for the power button at the top and the four buttons at the
very bottom. These keys are probably mappable with a bit of messing around
with setkeycodes and xmodmap. For some dumb reason a couple of the keys that
do work are repeats of other keys.

Personally I'll be sticking to my Hauppauge remote for as long as I have my
PVR350 for analogue TV...

Well, the 150MCE with no remote was $150, and the nearest 150 with remote
was $190 or so from memory, you see... of course, if I do get another 150,
it will be the version with remote.
