How do I get a PVR150 to talk to my TelstraClear/Saturn cable box?
Hi,

I am using KnoppixMyth R5C7 and have a PVR150 with the remote and IR
transmitter and receiver.

My TelstraClear/Saturn decoder is connected to the Composite video +L/R
sound inputs on the PVR150.

I have setup MythTV to use composite-0, and I have used mythfilldatabase
to load 10 days of data (thanks to www.reven.co.nz). During setup I
told it that I have a hauppauge remote and selected 'd' when asked which
one it was.

BUT, how do I setup LIRC to be able to send out the correct ircodes to
the TelstraCLear/Saturn decoder box?
AND, how do I get MythTV to recognise the Hauppauge remote so I can use
it via MythTV to change the channels???

I'd appreciate some help !

Cheers Douglas..

I'd recommend the s-video input if the TelstraCLear/Saturn has an output
of this flavour. I get a slightly sharper picture from my Sky box using
it.

Two things here:
1. Find a lircd.conf file for the Saturn remote control - you'll be
emulating the thing with an IR blaster so you'll need the codes. It may be
on the lirc site (not checked) but its easy enough to 'learn' a set if you
have an IR receiver. I drive my Sky IR blaster from the motherboard
internal serial port header (and hence the serial driver) and added a
3.5mm jack on the case for the IR blaster LED to plug into. See if the
Saturn remote has any reference numbers on it that tie in with anything o
the lirc site.

2. You don't say which PVR-150 you have! There are several types. I have
the 150mce retail which uses a rc6 remote and a USB receiver. It uses the
mceusb2 driver. The lircd.conf file for it IS on the lirc web site and you
just need to cocatenate the file with the Saturn one. If you have the
non-mce remote then you'll have a standard IR receiver that plug into the
card (I think).

One bug with the above is that you won't be able to use the usb receiver
to learn the Saturn remote codes, you'll need a 'standard' receiver. A
simple design is on the lirc site - I'm sure someone here will have a code
list though.

Cheers

Re: How do I get a PVR150 to talk to my TelstraClear/Saturn cable box? [ In reply to ]
Hi,

I have the PVR150 with the IR RemoteBlaster cable which is an IR
transmitter and an IR receiver connected via an IR cable jack on the
backplane of the PVR150 card (NO USB used at all).

I have found http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/motorola/DCT2000 which
appears to be the right one, I'll try it soon.

Looks like there is a Hauppauge remote profile as well, I will try
http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/hauppauge/lircd.conf.hauppauge

I assume I just need to replace the existing lircd.conf with a new one
which is the concatenation of the two above files?? Nothing else to do???

Lastly, my cable box doesn't have s-video (darn!!!).

Cheers Douglas.

Awful that even on their digital service, which costs $5 extra a month for
'high-quality' video, they don't even bother with S-Video, let alone
Component. Composite is all we get stuck with!

If you have the analogue decoder, the remote codes are the standard DCT2000
ones you can get off the LIRC website, or Google for it. The digital
service uses the ADB3000 codes. I had a little less luck finding these
online, but you should be able to find them. Failing that, I can email you
the ledxmitd.conf I use.

OK,

What command do you put in the "external channel change command" box for
setting up the ircode / getting the PVR150 to send the DCT2000 codes?

Cheers Douglas.

Take a look in this thread, there is an example of a script

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/mythtvnz/207363

For which I am grateful and might get around to implementing. It also
has the tip that sending volume up unmutes the sky box. Didn't know
that, and it always worried me how to ensure it wasn't muted.

Hi,

I had been wondering about this for a while, so I just ordered an IRBlaster.
Hopefully it will be a synch as my wife does get upset when I tell her it
will take a couple of hours to configure something like this and then
disappear for a week :)

Thanks for the info

Re: How do I get a PVR150 to talk to my TelstraClear/Saturn cable box? [ In reply to ]
Well I have made progress:

Using KnoppMyth R5C7 I can get it to send out IR codes, but not the ones
I want...

A fresh installation with a PVR150 with the IR Blaster, I can receive
commands from the Hauppauge remote.

I can use "*irsend SEND_ONCE blaster 0_8_KEY_9*" and the irled blinks on
the Hauppauge external cable,
BUT if I use "*irsend SEND_ONCE DCT2000 0*" I get errors in the syslog:

Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: write failed
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: Protocol error
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: error processing command: SEND_ONCE DCT2000 0
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: transmission failed
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv kernel: lirc_pvr150: failed to get data for code 0, key 9036 -- check lircd.conf entries
Jun 14 18:57:19 mythtv lircd-0.8.0pre4-pvr150[2598]: removed client

which is really odd as I downloaded the DCT2000 config from lirc.org and
added it to lircd.conf

I have checked that lircd has picked up the remote with *irsend list
DCT2000 ""*

I am at a bit of a loss, if I can get this last part sorted, then I am
ready to use the unit with Saturn!

Help?

Cheers Douglas.

Re: How do I get a PVR150 to talk to my TelstraClear/Saturn cable box? [ In reply to ]
Hmm,

To answer my own question, it looks like I do not need DCT2000, rather I
need to work out the codeset per
http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/blog/?p=19

I hope to do that in a day or so...

Cheers Douglas.

Re: How do I get a PVR150 to talk to my TelstraClear/Saturn cable box? [ In reply to ]
OK,

I now have it all working, sort of; sometimes the IR Blaster does not
light up, sometimes it does and occasionally it seems to be one command
behind!!

I am using the change_channel.sh from
http://www.blushingpenguin.com/mark/blog/?p=19 and if I call it from
the command line, it works perfectly every time, even quickly send many
commands, but from MythTV, it is unreliable (I have a 2.4GHZ Celeron,
512MB of RAM, etc).

Any ideas?

Cheers Douglas..
