nuv to avi
I want to convert some of our nuv files to avi so I can take them off my
MythTV box and allow them to be used by Windows users.

I found "nuvexport" but before I potentially stuff something up I want to ask
a few questions:-

Has anyone on list had experience with nuvexport or something else which does
the job?

Does nuvexport allow you to pick which files to convert?

Are there any "gotchas" to watch for?

No - it's all pretty straight forward, just make sure you have the supporting apps installed (nuvexport is just a script that displays a nice interface for the conversion tools).

From memory you'll need mplayer/encoder/ffmpeg + codecs

I've also found it handy to customise the script (edit /etc/nuvexport i think) with personalised defaults, so I can just hit enter and everything's dandy.

Unless your using UBuntu 5.1, the video transcoding (ffmpeg etc) seemed
to be badly broken last time I tried to run nuvexport.

I've done this under Windows using the DirectShow filters from
dsmyth.sourceforge.net. Install those and pretty much any Windows
software capable of handling avis will be able to read the nuv files
directly, e.g. Avisynth, VirtualDub, Windows Media Player.

(Gentoo)
"emerge nuvexport" is installing 33 packages as I type.

change the name to .mpeg and they can play on windows - i know you have a pvr-150 so it simply saves the mpeg stream.

Or upgrade to 0.19 and have MythTV name files properly in the first place.

Just waiting for the knoppmyth team to sort that out :)

Yeah the streams off any HW MPEG card or DVB card can just be played
under windows by changing the file extension to .mpg. Damn useful.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Obviously changing the file names is the simplest but I have tried nuvexport
and it does work well also.

RE: nuv to avi [ In reply to ]
I just associated .nuv to mediaplayer and play the mpeg streams over my
wireless network to my laptop if I want to watch recordings.

However, now im looking at how to tidy up the recordings and remove adverts
etc.. Ive worked out how to use transcode to change the .mpg files (under
0.19) or .nuv (under older myth) to divx files or something for archiving..

However this doesn't use the cutlists and things from mythtv.. Does anyone
have a simple way to do this.. For some reason my nuxexport doesn't seem to
work.. It sets up the fifos and just sits there waiting
