Hello, I've just recently fought through installing debian stable++
(debian stable plus 2.4.19 kernel plus unstable for alsa and most of the
things that are required for mythtv.) I got it to build and the
database is full of listings, but I can't run mythtv itself. When I run
it, my whole machine completely locks up and I have to hard-reset it. I
re-built mythtv with debugging info, and ran it from gdb, and got the
same result. I am running on a 900 mhz duron machine (K7S5A mobo) with
an audigy sound card. My graphics card is an Asus V7700 Deluxe with the
Geforce2 GTS pro chipset (I think), and I am using the S-Video on it for
the video capture. I have installed the latest version of the NVidia
drivers and rivatv for the v4l (xawtv displays S-video input ok, but the
avi capture doesn't seem to work - however without locking up the
machine - it just says its recording, and when I stop, there isn't a
file).
When I run /usr/local/bin/mythtv, it says (up to the point where it dies
anyway):
----------------- begin mythtv terminal output -----------------
Probed: /dev/video - Composite
Probed: /dev/video - S-Video
Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
channel '0' has no tuner (composite)
----------------- end mythtv terminal output -------------------
Also, my /var/log/syslog had the following just before it dies (the
first part is when I did a 'modprobe rivatv card=10 debug=2', the second
part is what I'm guessing rivatv reported when I started mythtv):
-------------------- /var/log/syslog - part 1

Does anyone have any ideas where I should start looking to find my
problem. Your advice will be much appreciated.
I should also mention, that I am currently just running on a computer
monitor - no S-Video output. I just figured I'd get it all working at
my desk in my office before I moved down to the living room. At some
point when its all working I plan to switch to TV output, but I just
don't like trying to read all this text from my TV screen.
Thanks,
Steve
