cx18: HVR-1600 model 1183
Hi Andy,

Previously we did a lot of work with the 1101 version of the 1600, but that
seems to have become scarce in the retail channel. The model 1183 seems to
have replaced it or be more widely available. Can you (or any other
readers) confirm full analog/digital support for the 1183 version of the
1600. I believe this is often tagged as an MCE version of the product.

Thanks,

-Jeff

Some further googling has uncovered that Newegg now stocks the HVR-1600
model 1388 MCE kit after not carrying the 1600 for a while. It would be
nice if Hauppauge used a less confusing model number process, it is hard to
tell what is different between the 1388 and the 1183.

Does anyone have any experience with the 1388 model?

Jeff,

All HVR-1600's should be supported equally well by the cx18 driver.

Recently they started shipping with a new analog tuner that was not recognized by the tveeprom and tuner-simple modules. That has been fixed in recent kernels.

Of course an analog tuner replacement can happen again without a model number change. Therefore I can never guarantee the analog tuner assembly will be supported out of the box on any one new unit you buy. However, analog tuner assembly substitutions don't happen often.

What is more likely is CX23418 chips being no longer available.
The scarcity of an end product in the retail channel is probably the first hint of such. Standard PCI is "old" technology after all.

Regards,
Andy
