[UNKNOWN IVTV CARD] please help
Hi,

I am trying to use an Avermedia Ultratv 1500 MCE, tv tuner card with ubuntu 8.10 and ivtv shows me the following -
[   17.771500] ivtv:  Start initialization, version 1.4.0
[   17.771926] ivtv0: Initializing card #0
[   17.771931] ivtv0: Unknown card: vendor/device: 4444/0016
[   17.771934] ivtv0:               subsystem vendor/device: 1461/c019
[   17.771936] ivtv0:               cx23416 based
[   17.771938] ivtv0: Defaulting to Hauppauge WinTV PVR-150 card
[   17.771940] ivtv0: Please mail the vendor/device and subsystem vendor/device IDs and what kind of
[   17.771942] ivtv0: card you have to the ivtv-devel mailinglist (www.ivtvdriver.org)
[   17.771944] ivtv0: Prefix your subject line with [UNKNOWN IVTV CARD].
[   17.772460] ivtv 0000:03:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 20

The card is based on the following chips - cx25843 (I think this is NTSC/PAL/SECAM decoder) and cx23416 (MPEG2 encoder). Can you please add support for this in ivtv, or please suggest me alternatives.

Thanks
-Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

It shouldn't be too hard to add support for this card, I think.

If I look at this picture: http://www.aver.com/mpd/1500mce+rt_lgview.jpg

I notice a WM chip above the ESMT memory chip. Can you tell me what chip
it is? Probably a WM8739 or WM8775.

Can you also carefully peel off the label on the tuner tin and see what
tuner they used? Usually you will see the actual tuner brand underneath
the label. It's probably a Philips (or NXP) type tuner.

Regards,

Hans

Hi Hans,

Thanks for your response. The chip above the ESMT chip, is a XWM8739S and under the tin, there is a philips  chip marked 6509 and 4905.

Thanks
-Pradeep

Hi Pradeep,

The chip markings are not useful, I'm afraid. Did you actually remove
the whole tin? All you need to do is to peel off the label on the tin,
since underneath that label you will usually find the name of the
tuner. If it is a Philips, then I expect something along the lines of
FM1236 for NTSC or FM1216 for PAL/SECAM (FQ variants are also
possible).

Hans
