explicit command for examining keys
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Given a keyblock and no command argument, GnuPG defaults to examining the
keyblock, and spits out the relevant key information. For the purpose of
clarity/safety, however, is there a command to explicity invoke this
behaviour?

Not that I know. You can use --list-packets but this results in
different kind of output.
