KDE grinds to a halt
I have a computer that triple boots Mandrake 10.1, Gentoo 2004.2 and Win98.
Under Gentoo I have had problems with freezing that seems to be cured by
adding append="noapic nolapic acpi=off" to lilo.conf. However I have noted
that after some usage, and it appears to be after it has gone into suspend
and woken back up, that kde goes mad. The whole CPU usage and large junks of
memory (according to top) get consumed for minutes at a time by kdeinit and
sometimes kblockd. The machine is an AMD XP1800 with 512MB ram so I have
enough hardware. Any clues about what is causing this? I don't see it under
Mandrake and they both run KDE 3.2. Also it doesn't appear to be related to
any specific application although Firefox, Quanta and konqueror would be used
most often.
