repost ctrl l stopped clearing screen
OK I have partially installed gentoo afresh on my old machine (new HDD),
ctrl L works AOK there. I have compared /etc/rc.conf files, they are
identical.

I have swapped keypads the problem persists on the new machine.

This is a relatively minor problem but I do a lot of work in aterm
(fluxbox user) & this is pretty frustrating.

I am at a loss, This is a pretty well virgin Gentoo install.
/usr/X11R6/bin/xev gives

Any help much appreciated,

Cheers

Re: [SOLVED] ctrl l stopped clearing screen [ In reply to ]
:-) After much headscratching, re-emerging baselayout etc, I
re-emerged bash,

Ctrl L works :-)

Cheers

Hi,
Same problem here. I've seen that you have solved your problem
re-boostraping and, in the end re-emerging bash. Well, I have a
SELinux server; it does not have X installed (doh!) and I cannot give
you the output of the Event Tester. All I can say is that Ctrl+L does
not work, even after, seeing your post, I have re-emerged bash. In
fact, I'm beginning to believe that it does have something with the
`clear' internal function, as, if I set a key combination in $INPUTRC
(def. /etc/inputrc) to perform an action it _does_ execute the action
- all but clear. I have also tried to change the key-combination for
the clear-screen action and it still doesn't work. For example, I've
tried Ctrl-v:
"\C-v": clear-screen
Nothing happens...
I think that the problem is some resource that bash is using when
clearing screen and _that very resource_ is not working.
So, all I can say is, `Strange, indeed...'.

Alin.
