Evolution 2.0.1 Hard Masked? Why?
Guys, Newbie to gentoo here, trying to set up a new system.

Is this (evo 2) still considered unstable? I guess so since it's [Hard
Masked] Are there any problems to upgrade to it??

Anyone using evo 2.0.1 already? Problems??

emerge -p =mail-client/evolution-2.0.1

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies
!!! all ebuilds that could satisfy "=mail-client/evolution-2.0.1" have been masked.
!!! possible candidates are:
- mail-client/evolution-2.0.1 (masked by: package.mask, ~keyword)

I'm writing this using 2.0.1 and it seems to work fine. The reason it
is hard-masked is because it is part of Gnome 2.8 which still has some
problems (although it's been fine here). Check out [1] for more
information.

If you want to experiment and install Gnome 2.8 then you will need to
copy the "Big Gnome 2.8 mask" from /usr/portage/profiles/packages.mask
to /etc/portage/package.unmask and emerge it then. You will probably
also need the relevant packages in /etc/portage/package.keywords as
~arch. There's more specifics in `man emerge`.
Obviously if you only want Evolution then you only have to copy it and
it's dependencies to /etc/portage/...

Also, check out the new use flags eds (Evolution calender intergration
with the Gnome clock applet), hal (Hardware abstraction layer) and evo
(Evolution intergration for Gaim, probably more too)

Is Gnome 2.8 in a Slot? IOW: Can I have both Gnome 2.6 and 2.8 installed
at the same time?

Hi,
No they are not slotted. Gnome-2.8 removes 2.6.x.
Think that only gnome-1.x and gnome-2.x are slotted.
At the moment i'm in the middle of gnome-2.8 emerge.
No problems so far.

Please let us know if you get bitten by the "nautilus won't emerge if
cups flag is set" bug-- it's the only thing keeping me from upgrading atm.

Hi,
Hate doing this (reply) for a second time but it'll be a test.
An hour ago replied to this same mail but from Evo-2.0.1 and still
nothing in the ML (when starting, Evo-2 asks whether to transfer all
mails to it's new folder, ignore or retry later - wisely choose later).
i get mail from the list but seems i can't send (from Evo-2). Will check
again later, as i touched some settings there.
Left this issue alone all of gnome-2.8 is working OK.
Not a single error while emerging and starting.
Wrote a CD in Nautilus. Very handy.
i'll keep in touch if somethings shows up (pros or cons).
Thanks
Rumen
