Rear speakers (alsa)
Hello, recently I acquired "5.1" speakers for my computer, but I can't
get the rear speakers too work with either mplayer nor with vlc, I've
tried to start mplayer with the parameters "mplayer -af
channels=6:6:0:0:1:1:0:2:1:3:0:4:1:5 -channels 6"(I found the command
on a via forum) but it didn't help. Acutely the only time where I've
heard the rear speakers was with a program called "speaker-test"
(http://www.alsa-project.org/~james/speaker-test/) so they are
connected correctly.
I am running with a 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 kernel, the sound driver that I am
using is alsa via82xx (the one who is in the kernel).
I hope that there is someone who can help

When you used the 'speaker-test' program, were you using the same
onboard sound chip? I have via8233 onboard sound (so I also use the
via82xx driver), and to the best of my knowledge, that chip is not
capable of 5.1 output, although the 8235 *may* be (I'm not sure, I'd
have to check). What is the precise chipset of your sound?

I _think_ it is via8237 (The mainboard is a Abit KV7 mainboard) and
yes I am completely sure that it has 5.1 sound capablity
