Seems that RP8 is mased (package.mask), whatever that means, and RP10 is
asking for gtk & /binsh. I *know* I have /bin/sh, and gtk comes up 'no
ebuilds to satisfy'. Apparently Gentoo users don't use RP10, or, perhaps,
any RP? I've never seen anything about it being discussed.

It isn't for want of trying but I get a 'package.mask' as mentioned in my
original msg. Can't emerge either of them. The one I need is really RP10,
though. Guess I'll have to keep SuSE around for a little while ...until I
get this figured out.

8 works on my machine, 8-r7 in fact. emerge it and you should see.

its probably not hugely popular when open source alternatives will play
many file formats, it can be useful though.

I know your problem has been resolved, but for future reference, if a
package you want is hard-masked, a good place to check is
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask. There is often a comment in there
explaining why it's masked. In this case, you would have found this:

# <solar@gentoo.org> (06 Feb 2004)
# RealOne/RealPlayer 8 vulnerabilities bug #40469
media-video/realplayer
media-video/realone

If you go to bugs.gentoo.org and search the bug number (40469), you'll
see a pretty complete explanation of why it was masked.
