Kernel variations
Gentoo has a lot of different kernels available, but what if you want
something offered by a few different ones? For example, what if I
want a 2.6, hardened, Win4Lin-enabled kernel with Gentoo and server
optimizations? Is it possible to get a 2.6 vanilla kernel and patch
it in various ways to end up with the one described above? Is that a
job for an expert only?

Well the main thing is that as far as i know most kernel patches are
against the vanilla kernel.
So if 2 patch sets patch the same file one of them will fail (unless
line numbering etc. hasn't changed)

Assuming the patches don't conflict, you should be able to use your
choice of patch sets on the kernel but it would need some manual
patching....If you can read a bit of code (not neccesarily understand
it) you should be able to do it...ofcourse there is no guarantee that
it will work perfectly or be stable but it's 99% certain that it will
compile :)
